As was mentioned before, our blog was offered the chance to ask the Congressman a few questions. We will be posting one question and answer a day for the next few days and ending with the entire text of the interview on the day of the Presidential Debate in Iowa, which McCotter should be participating in.
Here is the fourth answer and question:
SfM: If you could sum up your life in one quote, what would it be?
McCotter: “I’m not dead yet!” – from Monty Python & the Holy Grail
I couldn’t have said it better myself. At first, when I read McCotter’s answer, I laughed out loud. And then I read it to my dad because I felt like it was too good to not share. My dad’s response: immediate approval, followed by an “I want to work for this guy.”
Anyone who has been following the Fox News Debate controversy coverage might find it “too soon” for a good laugh at the poor old man’s expense. After all, the Holy Grail scene is eerily similar to the situation in Iowa. McCotter is “not dead yet.” In fact, his campaign is only about one month old. But Fox News has got him slung over its shoulder, proclaiming it’s just a matter of time before the campaign passes on. I mean, he’s not a real candidate. Have you seen his poll numbers?
And then there’s the Iowa GOP, who previously had voted unanimously to include McCotter in the debate. Can I just say, “Move over, Eric Idle.”
The weak protests of “it’s against regulations” and “he’s not dead yet” didn’t cut it in the Monty Python sketch. If only one of the muddy villagers had stood up for the poor old man before he was beaten to death…
Will someone please inform Fox News in the next few hours, before it’s too late, that they are about to set off some serious backlash? They should not take their viewers’ loyalty for granted. There will be a boycott. If they need to save face they can 1) decide to defer to the Iowa GOP rules after all 2) suddenly discover that McCotter has not even been a choice offered in most polls because too many slots were taken up by assorted household names who are not even candidates.
Failing a last-minute switch by Fox to actually living out their claim of fair and balanced, I hope the McCotter campaign will smartly exploit the heck out of this snub and use it to get some traction already!
