This isn’t exactly new, but it is important to publicize. In his book, Seize Freedom, McCotter (who formerly served on the International Relations Committee) stands up to the political elite, with whom he disagrees on the usefulness of the UN, and calls for the US to start a new international alliance.
The UN is a global Tammany Hall, lethal to the liberty and dignity of our human family. According to the Freedom House, of 192 UN member states, only 89 are “fully free.” In other words, a solid majority of member states are repressive regimes.
The US has been the largest financial contributor to the UN, which essentially funnels US Taxpayer dollars to despotic governments, and this is a terrible way to spend our money. The UN has failed miserably to do any of its original purposes, as free nations cannot rely on it for any security whatsoever. Governments who commit genocide can do so without any fear of UN intervention, and it constantly infringes on the sovereignty of free nations.
For all these reasons, Congressman McCotter has proposed a freedom-centric alternative to the UN, the “Liberty Alliance.” Members of the Alliance must be free, and agree on the self evident truths that we were endowed by our creator with the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. It would be created from the existing “Community of Democracies” but be a stronger force for freedom in the world.
The LA would not contain a military component, instead advancing freedom through “diplomatic, political, and economic initiatives focused on empowering and emancipating individuals, communities, and emerging democratic governments.” The Alliance would never dictate what kind of government would constitute a free government, but would instead encourage each country to decide for themselves what works best.
Members of the LA would not leave the UN, for they need to keep their enemies closer than their friends, and advance liberty among those countries that need it most. But McCotter realizes that the UN is not an effective international alliance, and rightfully calls for a truly useful worldwide partnership.
