On Saturday the Republican Party of Iowa made public that the criteria for participation in the Fox News Debate on August 11th would be registration for the Ames Straw Poll. This means that Thaddeus McCotter will be able to participate in this all important debate, which takes place just two days before the straw poll, and this should be a great forum to introduce himself to America, who I have no doubt will fall in love with his articulate, wonkish, witty, persona. Michele Bachmann’s and Herman Cain’s campaigns both got huge boosts in popularity and “seriousness” after strong debate performances in the earlier two debates, and I am confident that McCotter will truly pop in this one, the most important one so far, just as he did in the twitter debate.
I have written extensively on why McCotter’s message will resonate with Americans, and Iowans specifically, and I see this debate, and the Straw Poll immediately succeeding it, as an excellent opportunity for McCotter to gain the name recognition he needs to show America that he is the right choice to lead this nation. The congressman responds to the news in his own words here:
“Eager to fully engage Iowans during all the events surrounding the Ames Straw Poll, I am grateful that today’s RPI decision allows me to participate in the nationally televised debate. It will provide the unique opportunity to share my vision for how to achieve an America that works with voters in Iowa and all of America.”
Joining McCotter in this debate are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum.
